A student must complete minor declaration procedures with the appropriate coordinator as soon as possible but no later than the end of the full-term course withdrawal period in the first term of the senior year.

The requirements for the ALST minor with a concentration in African studies are as follows:
- ALST 201/CORE 189C - Africa (serves as ALST introduction to African studies)
- ALST 220 - The Black Diaspora: Africans at Home and Abroad
- Four African Studies Electives, at least two courses must be at the 300 level or higher.
