R. Ryan Endris has received critical acclaim for his “ability to imbue his vocal and instrumental forces with his view of the music” and for his ensembles’ “clarity, exquisite phrasing, and vibrancy” (Bloomington Herald-Times). Dr. Endris currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral & Vocal Activities at Colgate University where he conducts the University Chorus and Chamber Singers. Highly sought after as a conductor and clinician, he has recently appeared as a guest conductor for the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble and Monroe County School Music Association’s Women’s Honor Choir and as a guest clinician at Creighton University (Omaha, Nebraska), University of the Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), and University of Cartagena (Cartagena, Colombia). His audio recording with Collegium Mundi Novi, Choral Works of Antonio Juanas: premiere recordings, was released on the Centaur Records label on Nov. 16, 2018.
In addition to his active conducting schedule, Dr. Endris has several publications. He has published two books with For Beginners, LLC (The History of Classical Music For Beginners and Music Theory For Beginners), and his article “American Transcendentalist Philosophy and Symbolism in the Text and Music of Dominick Argento’s Walden Pond” appears in The Choral Scholar published by the National Collegiate Choral Organization. In March 2018 he presented his current research on Mexican composer Antonio Juanas (“Rediscovering Mexico: Music of the Mexico City Cathedral Archives”) at the American Choral Directors Association 2018 Eastern Division Conference in Pittsburgh, and his scholarly edition of Juanas’s Ocho Responsorios para los Maitines de la Santísima Trinidad was recently published by Carus-Verlag (Stuttgart, Germany) in early 2019.
Dr. Endris holds Doctor of Music and Master of Music in Choral Conducting degrees from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education (K-12 Choral/General Music). He has studied voice with internationally acclaimed soprano Sylvia McNair, and his conducting teachers and mentors include Robert Porco of the Cleveland Orchestra; John Poole of the BBC Singers; Jan Harrington of Indiana University; and Vance George, Director Emeritus of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. www.ryanendris.com
