Outlining the process for creating a VPN connection to the Colgate University network with a personal, non-Colgate computer.
Access to certain resources on Colgate’s network requires being connected to that network, even when in remote (off-campus) locations. This is done by using a VPN, which will connect a machine to Colgate’s network regardless of physical location.
Note this can be used by students, faculty, and staff for personal computers, and for Windows and Mac computer devices only.
Download the client for this VPN at https://remoteaccess.colgate.edu.
Enter your Colgate network (Portal) account credentials and click Log In.
Select the appropriate version for your computer and Install. Most computers are “64 bit” so select the 64 bit installer file for Windows or Mac. (If you are prompted to install the client from the Windows Store, do not.)
If prompted, click Allow or Yes to Continue -
Click Next or Continue through the installation wizard and accept all the default options.
You may be asked to authenticate.
Enter the computer login password here to proceed on a Mac computer:
Click Close when the installation is finished.
After the client is installed you will be prompted for a portal address.
Type remoteaccess.colgate.edu here and click Connect, as shown below.
Use your Colgate network (Portal) account credentials again when prompted.
