About off-campus living
The Office of Residential Life, in collaboration with Community Affairs and Campus Safety, manages our off-campus living program. These programs include alcohol education efforts, partnerships with Hamilton property owners, and opportunities for off-campus students to learn about civic responsibility.
Social and civic programming also was seen as a priority. In cooperation with the off-campus student representative to the Student Senate, several opportunities for students to build relationships among themselves and their neighbors were developed. A student barbecue was held downtown and other events were staged on the village green for residents to meet off-campus students.
New plans are in production to fortify some town-gown relations. A Campus Community Coalition will hopefully merge local residents, business owners, property owners, Colgate administrators, village authorities, and students to communicate on mutual interests. Likewise, new programs on alcohol education and civic responsibility will benefit our younger students as they visit downtown Hamilton. Also, David Gantt, campus safety officer, works closely with residential education on educational efforts for on-and off-campus students.
The associate director of residential education and technology, Ryan Bennett, serves as a resource for students to understand lease agreements, town ordinances, and expectations while living in the Village of Hamilton. You can contact Ryan at rbennett@colgate.edu or 315-228-7367
