| Regardless of where you live, it’s one of the first ways that first-years at Colgate identify themselves: "I’m on the third floor of Andrews." Or, "I live in East." The housing process Incoming first-year students will receive a mailing from the Dean of First-Year Students, Beverly Low, in early May. This mailing will include the First-Year Student Preference form, which asks for the information used to make your housing assignment (assignments are mailed on July 1, 2011). The Office of Residential Life assigns all new students based on this form. Therefore, it is important that you answer in an honest and timely manner. How room assignments are determined Please note that housing assignments are not determined based on room style (suite, triple, double) or individual hall preferences. If you wish to participate in an interest community (Harlem Renaissance Center, Wellness Living, Leadership Options for Tomorrow), please indicate which community on your First-Year Student preference form. More information about each community can be found on the housing options page. How roommate assignments are determined While not all preferences can be met, roommates are carefully matched by our staff to provide the greatest opportunity for successful matches. | When students arrive on campus each August, they bring their excitement and enthusiasm. They also bring duffel bags brimming with clothes, crates of PowerBars and macaroni and cheese, photographs, and iPods.
Empty rooms quickly transform into warm and inviting spaces, and first-year students soon find that their residence halls are communities. They are study spaces, central locations for events with friends, and the perfect place for discussing politics or enjoying a favorite TV show.
The friendships that start here can last a lifetime.
