First-Year Living

About first-year living
First-year students live together in six different residence halls. Each has live-in student staff (resident advisers) who act as community organizers, resources, and mentors. Each hall also is supervised by two professional staff members (assistant directors) who live on campus.

Room and roommate assignments
Room and roommate assignments are determined by the Residential Life staff based on incoming students' responses to the First-Year Student Preference form mailed to them during the summer prior to arriving on campus. Assignments are carefully determined to provide the greatest opportunity for successful living arrangements.

Several interest housing options are open to first years, including Wellness Living (see East Hall), Leadership Options for Tomorrow (LOFT, see Curtis Hall), and the Harlem Renaissance Center (HRC, see Bryan Complex) There also are resources in place for those who require special accommodations.

More information
If you have any questions, please see our list of frequently asked questions. We also have compiled a list of helpful links and resources for incoming first-year students. For any other questions, please contact the office of Residential Life. For residence hall locations, see the campus map.
