Meal Plans

All participants must have their Colgate University ID card to access their meal plan. Meal plans are exclusively allowed for the participant.

All incoming students required to maintain a meal plan will be automatically defaulted to the Premier Unlimited meal plan. There are other options available, and they are detailed below.


Premier Unlimited

Provides seven day a week access. Participants will have unlimited access to Frank Dining Hall during all hours of service; limited access to the Cutting Edge Bistro, Monday – Friday, for one meal per day; and will receive a block of 35 accesses per semester at the Coop.

Coop accesses not used in a given semester may not be carried over to the following semester. Participants will also receive $200 in flex dollars per semester. Flex dollars may only be utilized at Frank Dining hall, the Coop and the Library Café. Flex dollars carry over from fall semester to spring semester, but not spring semester to fall semester. This plan is required for first-year students and is available to all others.

Classic Unlimited

Provides seven day a week access. Participants will have access to Frank Dining Hall from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.; limited access to the Cutting Edge Bistro, Monday - Friday, for one [1] meal per day; and will receive $350 in flex dollars per semester. Flex dollars may only be utilized at Frank Dining Hall, the Coop and the Library Café. Flex dollars carry over from fall semester to spring semester, but not spring semester to fall semester. This plan is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The 14 Plan

Provides seven day a week access for up to 14 meals in Frank Dining Hall, the Coop or the Cutting Edge Bistro. Participants shall be allowed up to three meal swipes per day at Frank Dining Hall or Coop for a meal equivalency and Monday – Friday one meal per day at the Cutting Edge Bistro, which shall be included in the 14 meal per week maximum. Meals not used in any given week are not carried over to the following week. This plan is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The 10 Plan

Provides seven day a week access for a maximum of 10 meals each week at Frank Dining Hall or Coop. Participant shall be allowed up to three meal swipes per day (one per dining period) at Frank Dining Hall or the Coop for a meal equivalency. Participants in this plan will also have limited access to the Cutting Edge Café for one (1) meal per day, seven days as week, which shall be included in the 10-meal per week maximum. Meals not used in any given week are not carried over to the following week or weeks. This plan is available to juniors and seniors.

Block Plan

Provides seven day a week block of fifty accesses per plan at Frank Dining Hall, Edge Cafe and the Coop. Participants will also receive One Hundred and fifty [$150.00] in flex dollars per plan. Flex Dollars may be utilized in Frank Dining Hall, Edge Cafe, Coop and Library Cafe. The Block Plan is only available to junior and senior students not residing in traditional residence halls. Unused meals will roll over from fall to spring semester. At the end of the spring semester all unused meals will be forfeited.
(2012-13 cost: $845. Students must renew this plan when they use up their meals by going to the dining services office in Frank Dining Hall.)


Having trouble selecting a meal plan?
Try considering your daily routine. Do you eat three meals a day? Will your class schedule, studying, extracurricular activities and social events interfere with dining? Will you miss dinner due to employment or evening classes? Anticipating the answers to these and similar questions will help you to select a meal plan that best fits your lifestyle.

How to add or change a meal plan

  • Please contact Student Accounts at 315-228-7812 between 6/1/11 and 8/24/11 to add or change a meal plan.
  • The deadline to make changes is 9/1/11 for the fall semester and 1/26/12 for the spring semester.
  • Fall semester meal plans will automatically carry over into spring unless changes are submitted before deadlines

What are Flex Dollars or Gate Cash?
  • Flex Dollars -- Another feature adding flexibility to your dining options and is yours to spend like cash at the Coop and Library Café. As an additional value Flex Dollars are tax exempt and carry- over from fall to spring, but end on the last day of the academic calendar year (and thereafter forfeited).

  • Gate Card -- Convenient way to purchase meals at any campus dining locations. Food can be purchased ala carte with cash or your Gate Card at the Library Café or Coop, and as a meal at the Edge Bistro or Frank Dining Hall. Get the added benefit of using it at the Bookstore, C-store, mailroom, as well as using it for laundry, library copiers, and at participating area merchants. Gate Cash carries over from fall to spring and year to year. Additional funds may be added here.

Frequently asked questions
  • Frank Dining Hall offers “all you care to eat dining” with accommodating hours.
  • Meal plans are based on a seven day week. The week starts on Friday and ends on Thursday. Please note that unused meals do not carry forward.
  • Contact on-campus residents are required to have a meal plan. On campus apartment residents, and off-campus residents can sign up for a voluntary meal plan. To sign up for a voluntary plan, please contact us at 315-228-7670 or e-mail us at lmarcellus@mail.colgate.edu.
