Stockbridge Valley Tutoring Program
Description: The Stockbridge Tutoring program offers help to students of late middle school and high school age, mainly in mathematics (i.e., early algebra, geometry, etc.). Tutoring sessions are Tuesday - Thursday from 2:10 to 3:35 pm.
The time commitment is, at a minimum, about 90 minutes per week. Students generally provide their own transportation, but having a car is not necessary as carpooling is available.
Community: We serve the Stockbridge Valley Central School and work with middle school and high school students.
Volunteers Say: "Overall the experience has been a wonderful way to support children in need of positive role models. The relationship is reciprocal, as they also point out the more meaningful and often overlooked things in life. I love working with children and feel that these children are especially in need of positive influences in their lives. Volunteering helps others as well as helps yourself to gain a broader understanding of life. It's a very rewarding experience."
"I have greatly benefited from having this opportunity to be a part of the program. It has helped me learn to communicate better through explaining concepts to the students in a way in which they understand. It was also a way to get involved in the community and meet people who I wouldn't have interacted with."
