Ophelia’s Girls
Description:The goals of Ophelia's Girls is to inspire adolescent girls to believe in themselves and achieve great things with their lives through group discussions, activities, and mentorship from Colgate female students at Madison Central School. Volunteers go to talk about issues facing adolescent girls such as body image, nutrition, self-esteem and the media's portrayal of women. As a small group of dedicated volunteers, Ophelia's Girls is always looking for enthusiastic Colgate students to apply.
Volunteers commit about two hours every week. Transportation to Madison Central School is provided.
Community: Colgate volunteers work with middle and high school girls at Madison Central School.
Volunteers say: "The people I have met in the local community and at Colgate have given me experiences and friends that will stay with me past graduation."
"Ophelia's Girls has taught me a lot about responsibility and the problems that young women face. The women in the group are some of the most caring and involved women at Colgate and I've been proud to work with them."
