Join the fourth largest chapter in the nation to fight America's number one killer. The Utica office sponsors America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk each spring drawing over 8,000 participants. Be a part of this powerful experience and help to education about health issues.
Colgate Hunger Outreach Program
CHOP targets issues of hunger in Madison County and strives to educate the Colgate community about the deeper issues surrounding hunger and poverty. Group members participate directly in one or more of the following ways: working in the Friendship Inn Soup Kitchen on Monday nights, volunteering at the Hamilton Food Cupboard on Tuesdays or Thursdays, or salvaging food from various locations on campus to deliver to the soup kitchen. The group also hosts fundraising events throughout the semester.
Do Random Acts of Kindness (DoRAK)
DoRAK is designed to increase volunteerism among Colgate students by encouraging their participation in short-term, community volunteer projects. These projects include acts that promote a positive atmosphere on the Colgate campus and in the greater Hamilton community. Participation in these projects provides community outreach opportunities while enhancing social bonds among the Colgate students who volunteer.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable, decent housing to families in need. Colgate Habitat helped complete a home last May and while funds are raised for a subsequent build, Colgate Habitat will focus on landscaping assistance, trail maintenance, general construction repairs and fundraising. Overall, Habitat champions hard work and cooperation to improve lives and living conditions throughout the Hamilton area.
The Network (formerly Iaso)
The Network is dedicated to spreading awareness about domestic violence by performing fundraisers, volunteering at local women's shelters and inviting guest lecturers to campus. Volunteers are also advocates on a 24-hour hotline and plan to launch a peer support group.
Oxfam
Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization dedicated to fighting hunger, poverty, and injustice around the world. The campus organiztion will specifically work on three campaigns - Hunger and Poverty, Extractive Industries, and Climate Change - to raise awareness, host events, and fundraise.
Pet Pals
Pet Pals volunteer at Wanders' Rest and Spring Farm Cares. We exercise, groom and socialize the animals and provide administrative help to the shelters. Volunteers go in groups of two or three in two-hour shifts once a week.
Sister 2 Sister
Sister 2 Sister (S2S) focuses on the health issues of women of color.
Student Global AIDS Campaign
The Student Global AIDS Campaign (SGAC) is a national student and youth movement with chapters at high schools, colleges, and universities across the United States committed to bringing an end to HIV and AIDS in the U.S. and around the world through education, informed advocacy, media work, and direct action.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at Colgate provides income tax preparation services for low-income households in Madison and Chenango counties. It trains approximately 35 student volunteers each year, who travel to five different sites in the area to file income taxes. In 2007, it helped 1,100 families and returned over $1 million to the local community.
