Eight to ten student work for the COVE as interns every year (either for a semester or the entire year). The interns help organize various COVE programs, in the process gaining valuable experience in areas of writing, publicity and marketing, community organizing and activism, educational outreach and large-scale event planning. The interns are divided into teams with various types of responsibility:
PR and marketing:
- Inform the campus constituencies and the surrounding communities of the COVE’s work.
- Produce articles, webpages, newsletters, public presentations, videos, displays and other creative pieces that highlight the opportunities found at the COVE.
- Serve as editor of the COVE’s Grapevine, COVE's weekly newsletter.
Community organizing
- Work with COVE team leaders to help them make their work have stronger implications for long-term social change
- Oversee the service-based first-year living-learning community
- Seek creative ways of engaging students in conversations about community needs and developing solutions
- Coordinate the COVE’s alternative break trip programs.
Educational outreach
- Educate the student body about issues of global, national and local concern
- Create collaborative projects with other campus groups outside of the COVE
- Develop passive, active and interactive strategies that capture the attention of students.
Special event organizing
- Coordinates and promotes large-scale events like COVE Fridays, community coffees, and large scale fundraising & awareness events.
- Coordinate COVE's partnership with Career Services in spearheading the Doing Well By Doing Good luncheon series
- Assist with information about “common good” careers and internships.
All interns coordinate and oversee the COVE’s participation in the student involvement nights and participate in intern outreach activities. Even though the interns have specific task, they all collaborate with each other to fulfill the mission of the COVE.

1. Is the internship paid?
Yes, the interns are paid hourly wage for their efforts.
2. How many hours per week do I have to commit to COVE?
The hour varies, but interns are expected to put in 8-10 hours per week.
COVE recruits one or two summer interns every year. The interns are responsible for assisting with program planning and leadership development initiatives, providing general office assistance, as well as planning and directing the Outreach pre-orientation program taking place the days prior to first-year orientation
As an Outreach staff member, you will coordinate the logistical details of registration, meals, transportation/directions to sites, and orientation activities for Outreach with other staff members; leading group activities at the end of each work day to provide opportunities for reflection; attending the Leadership Institute (mandatory for new Outreach leaders), and attending Outreach staff orientation.
