Meet the Interns!
The Center for Outreach, Volunteerism & Education (COVE) has eight to ten student interns who commit around eight to 10 hours a week planning projects and collaborating with COVE groups. In exchange, the student interns gain valuable experience in writing, publicity and marketing, political organizing and activism, educational outreach, and large-scale event organization. Here are this year's COVE interns.
Mack Goldberg '12

Mack will be working on Doing Well By Doing Good and Male Involvement. He will also be the liaison to the LOFT program and Athletics. Hailing from Franklin Lakes, NJ, Mack is a pre-med senior Molecular Biology major and Film & Media Studies minor. His involvement at the COVE extends to the Disaster Response Team (DiRT) where he has led two alternative break trips to New Orleans. Over the course of his time at Colgate, Mack has been involved with the Colgate Activities Board, club sports, Admissions, and Residential Life. He is look forward to a great year working at the COVE!
Sarah Branz '12

Sarah has been planning Doing Well by Doing Good brownbags and working with both LOFT and Greek Life this semester. Sarah is a senior geography major who is also getting her teaching certificate in elementary education. At the COVE, she a team leader for Headstart, has been an Outreach leader, and went to the Dominican Republic on an alternative break! In other parts of campus, Sarah is an active member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and Konosioni and spends a lot of her time in first grade. She spent last spring abroad in Madrid and loved it, but is glad to be back at Colgate for her senior year.

Casey is really excited about being a COVE intern this semester! She will be working as an ALANA and LGBTQ Initiatives liaison, and will be helping out with intern outreach as well. Casey will also be making sure that all COVE bulletin boards look awesome! As well as working at the COVE, she helps lead COVE team Sister2Sister and Advocates, is a member of CHOP, Student Theater and is a tour guide. Casey grew up in Munich, Germany, but now lives on Nantucket in Massachusetts. As a theater and political science double major, she is a strong believer in following your passions, and encourages everyone to do so!
Maggie Hynes '13

Maggie is a junior from Norwell, MA, and is looking forward to spending this semester as a COVE intern before heading off to study in Wales in the Spring! She is very excited to be working as a liaison for WMST, athletics, and the chaplaincy, as well as helping coordinate the COVE’s special events schedule! Maggie is pre-med and a Behavioral Neuroscience major, and after Colgate she hopes to involve herself in healthcare philanthropically. On campus she plays in the orchestra, is an admissions tour guide, serves as a philanthropy chair for Gamma Phi Beta, and is a member of the women’s Rugby team! Between running around, Maggie loves spinning, Frank brunch, the Hamilton farmer’s market and library coffee breaks!!
Marvin Vilma '14

Marvin is a sophomore from hustle and bustle of New York City. He is currently studying Sociology and French. Marvin is involved in several COVE groups including Project Peace and is a HCS secondary school tutor. As a COVE intern, however, he works with the OUS, ALANA, Colgate's International community and is responsible for the newsletter. Outside of service related activities, Marvin enjoys singing, dancing, reading and watching t.v. shows about weddings. On campus, he is generally noticeable because he loves wearing colorful clothing all year round. Marvin is excited about working with the COVE this year and can't wait to see great things happen.

Tinashe is a sophomore from Triashill, Zimbabwe who is currently studying Molecular Biology and Human Geography. Vans Kronje, as he is nicknamed, is involved on campus with: American Heart Association (team leader), African Students Union, Pre-Health Students Association, Club Soccer, Cell and Developmental Biology Research Assistant, Undergraduate Philanthropy Council, and COVE Outreach. With the COVE, he works as the ALANA/International Students Liaison as well as planning Community Coffees and Cove Fridays. He loves anything with the number 22 on it and hopes to someday play for AC Milan and headbutt Mario Balotelli.

Liz is a senior from Millburn, New Jersey. This semester she will be working on COVE Friday’s and introducing the COVE to the world of Twitter. She recently spent a semester in Washington DC where she interned for a congressional office and a lobbying firm. Liz is majoring in Political Science and minoring in Art History. She loves the beach, hot chocolate, and her dog, Duchess. She is beyond excited to be working with the Cove Team!
Lindsay Strand '12

A senior from Minnesota, Lindsay works on the alternative break trips and publicity for the COVE. In addition to leading the trip to the Dominican Republic this winter, she also publishes the written and online versions of The Grapevine. Lindsay is an English major and Spanish minor, and studied abroad in Barcelona during her junior year. She first got interested in interning at the COVE after an alternative break trip to the Dominican Republic her sophomore year. Through the COVE, Lindsay is also Co-Leader of Ophelia's Girls, a group focused on mentoring middle and high school girls at Madison and Morrisville schools. She has also been involved with Head Start. Outside of the COVE, she is the Scholarship Chair of Gamma Phi Beta, and a member of Konosioni. Lindsay is always happy to answer any questions about alternative breaks or about how to get involved with the COVE!
Griffin O'Shea '13

Griffin is a junior from Long Island who works on alternative break trips, Greek life philanthropy, male involvement, and website editing with the COVE. Along with leading the trips to Nairobi, Kenya, he has also led two trips to Pathfinder Village which is a community for individuals with Down Syndrome in Edmeston, NY. Griffin is a International Relations and Geography double major and was the Co-Philanthropy Chair of his fraternity, Theta Chi. Through the COVE, Griffin is a leader of Friends and Mentors, the French Foreign Language Tutoring Program, and the Shapna Project. He is also involved in Students for Students, Broad Street Association, and Democracy Matters. He likes to give information sessions as a student illustrator for the Office of Admissions. Griffin is so excited to work with the COVE and would love to answer anyone's questions!
