Responsible computing, Know the rules

...I Used to Rule the World

Keep your computer up-to-date with the latest security patches and updates.

Make sure you have a secure password on all of your computer accounts including your network account and all of your computer’s administrator accounts. Change the password on your Colgate and email account at least once each semester.

Never share your Colgate account or password with anyone even if they also have a Colgate account. Consider running an anti-spyware program on a regular basis such as; Spybot, Adware and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. Stay legal! Do not violate any state or federal laws and always follow university policies when you use your account or university computing facilities. Avoid using your computer in such a way as to overload university computer equipment or hamper system performance. You may not use university computing resources for commercial gain or private profit.

Do not attempt to circumvent system security or gain unauthorized access, either to internal computing systems or external systems. Under specific conditions, university officials have the right to examine personal electronic information stored on, or passing through, the university system.

Make sure you are using up-to-date anti-virus software on your computer. If you connect your computer to the Colgate network and are running Windows or Mac operating systems, you must install McAfee Anti-Virus software and keep it up to date, unless you have another virus protection program.
