Colgate Portal Account
The Colgate Portal provides access to important campus life, academic, and financial services. On the portal you will receive announcements, vote in campus elections, register for classes, view grades and unofficial transcripts, view class schedules, pay fees, etc.
You can access the Colgate portal at http://portal.colgate.edu
User your Colgate username and password to access your portal account.
To access the password reset utility go to: https://accounts.colgate.edu
The password reset utility can be used to change both portal and e-mail passwords. This utility can also be used to reset passwords if you forget your password.
To change your password:enter username and current portal password and click 'continue to change my password'. Select 'change your password'. Enter your new password.
To reset your password, click Forgot your password? Or is your account locked? Follow the prompts to reset your password. In order to reset your password you will need:
- Your Colgate 9-digit ID number
- The last four digits of your social security number (or passport number for international students).
Colgate enforces a strong password policy. In order to reset or change your password, your new password must:
- Contain both upper and lower case characters (e.g., a- z, A-Z)
- Have at least one digit (e.g., 0-9)
- Have at least one punctuation character (e.g., ^*_+~={}[]<>?)
- Be at least eight alphanumeric characters long
- Not be a word in any language, slang, dialect, jargon, etc.
Note: Each Colgate account has a password for the portal and another password for email. These passwords can be set to be the same, but they are technically different. They are not related and are not interchangeable. The portal password is used to access all Colgate online services. The email password is used only for your email account.
Setting up a VPN connection
A VPN connection enables access to online services that require connection to the campus network. Such services include subscriptions to online journals and access to network storage.
To set up a VPN connection to Colgate University see below for how to set up a VPN connection for your operating system and use the following settings for these parameters:
- username/ account name - your Colgate username
- password - your Colgate portal password
- internet address/ server address - vpn.colgate.edu
- name/ service name - Colgate University
- domain (if applicable) - COLGATE
- Send all traffic through the VPN server
