Getting Connected to the Colgate Network

What We Offer

Colgate University provides both wired and wireless access to the network. Every residential room has one Ethernet port per person and wireless is available throughout campus.

 

What is Required for Network Access

Automatic Updates Turned On

Desktop and Laptop Computers must have automatic updates turned on, and the latest operating system updates installed.

 

Anti-virus Software Installed

Desktop and laptop computers must have an anti-software application installed.  It must be up to date, and cannot be a trial version.

 

Bradford's Persistant Agent

The Bradford Agent must be installed and remain on your desktop or laptop to obtain network access.  The agent is downloaded and installed during the registration process which is explained below.  For more information on the Bradford Agent, visit our Bradford Persistent Agent page. 

 

Registration

Any device connected to the network must be registered using your Colgate Network username and password.  Watch this video which explains the process for registering your desktop or laptop.

Anti-virus Protection 

Colgate provides McAfee Security free of charge.  To install, log onto the Colgate portal, Click on the Helpdesk Tab, and select the PC or Mac install.

Registration

Devices can be registered in three ways.  

1. Remotely 

Laptops and desktops can be registered prior to arrival on campus.  Visit our remote registration page to begin the process.

2. On-Campus Self Registration  

Laptops, desktops and most smart phones and tablets can be registered on campus by attempting to connect, and then following the instructions that appear in your web browser.

Game consoles can also be self-registered.  See additional information at the bottom of this page.

 3. Manually

Certain devices must be registered by ITS.  These devices include a small number of Android phones and tablets, some Blackberry phones, e-readers, and streaming video devices.  Visit our wireless connection page for information on registering these devices.

 

Restrictions

Routers and wireless routers are not able to be registered and used on the network.
