Getting ITS Help

Faculty and staff can contact the Helpline by:

If we can’t solve your problem over the phone or through e-mail, we’ll assign your issue to a technology support analyst. That person will contact you, and can come to your office to make sure you get the help you need.

An emergency classroom service also is available whenever school is in session. Call the Helpline at 315-228-7111 and an ITS staff member will be available to provide assistance over the phone or in person.

We can also help if you would like to discuss issues regarding classroom technology, plan for the implementation of classroom technology into your curriculum, or request more information on available classroom technology.

Moodle is the web-based course management program used by faculty and students, replacing Blackboard in fall 2010.  A Moodle site is automatically generated for each class each semester, although not all are used by faculty. Moodle orientation sessions are provided upon request, and comprehensive information is online at Moodle, accessed directly at moodle.colgate.edu.

Our approach to providing online services for faculty and staff has been to integrate much of the functionality of our administrative software system (SCT Banner) into web-based services. This resolves accessibility issues, since services are available from any computer connected to the internet. We have also developed a Colgate community portal @ portal.colgate.edu, for internal use.

We also supply desktop equipment, including a standard set of software, for faculty and staff. This equipment is replaced on a yearly cycle, after consultation with departments. Because of personal computing standards, and the reliability of the hardware, the replacement cycle for most computers has been extended to six years.
