Annually an average of 19 percent of Colgate graduates go on directly to graduate or professional school, with an even greater percentage pursuing advanced degrees after working or volunteering for a few years, or undertaking national fellowships or scholarships. The Center for Career Services supports students and alumni in all steps of the graduate and professional school decision-making and application processes to complement the advising that Colgate faculty provide.
We encourage students and alumni to take advantage of the breadth of our graduate and professional school services: individual advising; guest speakers, panels, and events such as the Law School Fair and the Michael Wolk ’60 Conference on Medical Education (through the Health Sciences Advising Committee); application workshops; on-line and in-house resources; and access to alumni who are students, alumni or educators in many graduate fields. Additionally, there is funding through our office for students to gain experience and knowledge to enhance their competitiveness for post-graduate study; Colgate's Summer Undergraduate Research Program provides same for over 100 students yearly.
Planning and strategizing for graduate or professional school needs to start early in a student's academic career. We recommend that students connect with our office as soon as they identify an interest in an area involving post-graduate study. To schedule an appointment to speak with an advisor, students and alumni should call 315-228-7380.
