Ongoing Programs:

Safe Zone Training

The purpose of this program is to create a supportive campus climate through encouraging conversation around gender identity and sexual orientation, homophobia, heterosexism, and various oppressions. By educating members of the campus community about current LGBTQ related issues, members of the campus community can be more prepared to provide support and resources on LGBTQ and Ally concerns. Any person or group can request a Safe Zone training by contacting LGBTQ Initiatives.

Family Dinner
Every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. the LGBTQ and ally community comes together to eat in Frank Dining Hall to enjoy dinner, discuss current events, and connect. All members of the Colgate and Hamilton community are welcome!

Conference Scholarships
Colgate students have the opportunity to apply for funding to attend or present at national and regional conferences focusing on LGBTQ research, education, community organizing, or activism. Past conferences attended include National Gay and Lesbian Task Force-Creating Change, Expanding the Circle for Higher Education Professionals, Northeast LGBT Conference.

QueerFest: Celebrating All Identities
Established in 2006, QueerFest: Celebrating All Identities (formerly known as, Big Gay Weekend) provides LGBTQ and Ally students from area colleges an opportunity to network, socialize, and learn with their peers at a conference style program of speakers, workshops, and social events. Please see the links below for previous related news stories.

Lavender Graduation
Celebrates the ambitions and accomplishments of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer seniors. Annual awards recognition helps us to recognize specific individuals for their great impact on the community.

National Coming Out Week
National Coming Out Day, October 11th, is a day to celebrate and to support equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and ally individuals. By recognizing this day as an entire campus community, we can demonstrate that Colgate is a place for students, staff, faculty and alumni to live openly. Campus events include social activities, Coming Out Panel, Coming Out Door and Door Burning, and Annual BBQueer hosted by alumnus Neal Rosenberg ’74.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Service and Celebration
During the month of November, time is set aside a time to memorialize those injured or killed due to anti-trans hate and prejudice. By celebrating a range of gender identities, and educating on gender issues, we can help support and protect our transgender, genderqueer and queer friends.
