In October 2009, Colgate approved a new policy on student sexual misconduct and sexual harassment. The revisions to Colgate’s policy are the result of a yearlong review that grew out of the need to provide clearer guidance to students regarding their rights and options if they are victims of sexual assault, and to clarify the process and steps involved in filing a complaint. Colgate’s resident assistants, administrative deans and campus safety personnel and others will be trained on the new policy and how to best provide guidance and counsel to students who report instances of sexual harassment or misconduct. Colgate’s Advisors on Harassment Issues will also be available to students for informal advice and referral.
Mandatory sessions will be held this semester to educate all students about expectations, definitions, resources, and processes for seeking support and filing reports in cases of sexual misconduct and harassment. Dates and times for these sessions will be announced through a separate email from the Office of the Dean of the College in November.
The policy is currently available by clicking here. Thank you in advance for your participation in the effort to create positive change in Colgate’s campus culture.
