Administrative Advising

Colgate University has a unique dual-advising system for students. All students are assigned an academic (faculty) adviser and an administrative adviser. The adminstrative adviser is commonly referrered to as the student's "dean." Administrative advisers work with their advisees to assist them with navigating Colgate.

The nature of advising relationship is dependent upon the specific needs a student may have at a given time. Administrative advisers are available to consult with students on a variety of matters and some of the issues that are most commonly addressed are listed below. Certainly, students are encouraged to contact their administrative adviser if other issues, concerns, or possibilities exist that are not listed below.

The administrative advisers are members of the Committee on Standards and Academic Standing. The CSAS typically meets weekly during the academic year to review petitions requesting an exception to an existing deadline or policy.
