Athletic Facilities
Facility memberships are available through a payment and ID system for Colgate employees and their immediate family. A facility membership card or a Colgate ID is required for the use of the Fitness Center, Lineberry Pool, Huntington Gym Courts, Sanford Field House Tennis Courts, and Sanford Field House Track. A Benefits Fair organized by human resources, is typically held every other fall. This is an opportunity for employees to meet the University’s benefit representatives, to learn more about the benefits provided by Colgate, and to have their questions answered.
Chenango Nursery School
Colgate provides scholarships or subsidies for employees whose children attend Chenango Nursery School (CNS). The goal of the scholarship fund is to help make CNS affordable for more Colgate employees. There is some flexibility in the established guidelines based on individual circumstances. There are also other outside sources of funding that may be available to employees. For more information on CNS or on financial aid, contact Denise Dinski at 824-1810. “CPR Anytime for Family and Friends” is a nationally approved course that is sponsored by human resources. The student health center staff instructs this 50-minute course that reviews CPR for adults and children, care for choking emergencies and a discussion on risk reduction for cardiovascular diseases and other health problems. The CPR Anytime courses are normally offered in March.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is designed to help with problems related to substance abuse, marital and family issues, financial or legal concerns and job stress and other personal problems.
The EAP provides confidential, short-term, solution focused counseling (usually 4 – 6 sessions) for employees and families. For longer term counseling needs, a referral is made to appropriate resources within the community. Your needs are matched with the most appropriate and most cost-effective resources and are coordinated with your health insurance coverage.
Family Services Associates (FSA) is Colgate’s EAP provider. FSA is the largest integrated out-patient provider of mental health and substance abuse services in Onondaga County with offices in Liverpool, Syracuse and DeWitt. Colgate employees and their families may be seen at any of the above locations or at their satellite location in Hamilton at 58B Utica Street. Excellus BlueCross and BlueShield members can access tools to assist them in locating a doctor or hospital, learn how generic prescriptions can save you money, research health topics, compare hospitals, take a health assessment and more. Click here https://www.excellusbcbs.com
Flu Shot Clinics are sponsored by human resources and offered each fall. The student health center staff provide flu shots to staff, faculty, retirees, significant others and employees’ children who are 13 years of age or older. Getting a flu shot is an excellent way of protecting our employees and their family members from getting the flu.
The Focus on Fitness program sponsored by human resources and the Trudy Fitness Center offers wellness classes to our employees and their spouses/partners during the lunch hour and after work. The Learn at Lunch series offer noontime educational sessions on health and wellness. Our first session featured Dr. Miller, director of student health services speaking on “Give it a Shot. Vaccines for Children and Adults; Are They Safe?” Others included a panel discussion on eldercare issues entitled “Eldercare, Peace of Mind for You and Your Family” and “Breast Cancer Awareness.”
Step Up Healthy Competition takes a team approach to building healthier lifestyles. Team members strive to eat better and be more physically active by keeping track of how many steps they walk and how many servings of fruits and vegetables they consume daily. Team members track their results online and have access to the site’s wellness information. Colgate’s first competition was held the summer of 2005. “Weight Watchers at Work” program at Colgate began in January 2008. This program is designed to assist in weight loss through a nutrition program and weekly group meetings.
