Colgate University understands the need for the spouse or partner of a candidate to locate employment, either at the university or in the surrounding area.
Colgate is a proud member of the Upstate New York HERC (Higher Education Recruitment Consortium). Developed in 2006, the Upstate New York HERC is a collaborative response of member institutions to the many challenges of academic recruitment and retention. Of particular interest to the Upstate New York HERC is finding effective ways to assist the spouses and partners of faculty and staff to secure area employment.
Colgate seeks to respond to these needs to the extent it is able by providing informational assistance to spouses and partners who seek employment.
Information on employment opportunities at Colgate as well as links to other employers/job listings in the region are available below:
Colgate University will try to facilitate spouse/partner employment in the following ways. The Human Resources Department, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, and the Director for Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action will extend assistance in helping the spouses or partners of present or incoming faculty and staff to secure employment in the community.
A person who is a spouse or partner of a Colgate employee, or a candidate for employment, shall be considered on an equal basis with all other applicants under the university's equal employment opportunity policies.
In implementing the equal employment opportunity for spouses and partners, Colgate cannot guarantee employment for any individual. Spousal/partner employment will be based upon the same principles pertaining to employment elsewhere at the university:
- Colgate will strive to attract and retain the best faculty and staff.
- While doing so, Colgate will also strive to increase the number of women and persons of color on its administration, faculty, and staff.
In summary, Colgate can neither guarantee employment nor violate equal employment opportunity for all applicants. The purpose of this policy and these procedures is to make certain that, for spouses and partners of current or prospective employees, information about job opportunities is made as readily and fully available as possible.
