ITS Initiatives

ITS is currently involved in many short- and long-term projects. These projects, once completed, will provide improved services to the campus community.

Google Drive Implementation and Education Plan

Come up with campus announcement regarding Google Drive.

Web Hosting Phase I

Nolij Document Management and Workflow

Improve the admission application review process and move it from paper to online. Included in this project is moving Faculty Load cards online.

Consolidate and enhance the ability to send communications via e-mail for departmental and student groups. Provide a history of e-mails sent.

Bookstore Project

Upgrade existing Bookstore system to new hardware and software (WebPrism and WinPrism).

ITS Website Content

Improve the existing ITS website for our customers and clarify responsibility for ongoing web page maintenance.

Virtual Desktop

Explore options for creating application and desktop virtual environments for public lab, classroom, staff, and faculty use.

Device Registration Revamp

We are exploring a new, easier, transparent, and reliable registration process to get users online at the beginning of each semester.

Personal Desktop Backup

Find the best strategy to protect data via a backup of a user's hard drive.

PaperCut Upgrade

Upgrade to the newest version of PaperCut NG (PCNG) and move the control function onto an established VM server.

Admission Lobby

In support of the Admission Lobby renovation project, deliver technology (digital signage, iPad registration, and content) that showcases Colgate's "high caliber, global, and cutting-edge education."

Password Reset Utility

To find an off-the-shelf solution that allows users to create/reset their own passwords. The solution must sync with and between AD and Gmail plus have a simple interface for the users.

Providing wireless projection from any device — laptop, tablet, smart phone — has been requested by both faculty for classroom use and staff for use in meetings. Leveraging Aruba Network's AirGroup technology and the AppleTV, we are piloting a solution to reach this goal.

Binding Macs

Binding Macs to the Colgate domain will improve the ease with which Mac users can access network resources (such as printing and fileshares) and also increases the security of each Mac.

We are working on updating our business continuity and disaster recovery procedures as well as reviewing our privacy and security policies.

Website Content

Improve the look and usability of the ITS pages on the website including the addition of help documents and a separate ITS search option.

Multifunction Devices

Replace stand-alone printers, fax machines, scanners, and copiers with multifunction devices. Will improve productivity, save money, and reduce Colgate's carbon footprint.
