Students who seek an exception to policy may submit a petition to the Committee on Standards and Academic Standing (CSAS) or the Petitions Committee.
The Petition Committee reviews cases that involve graduation requirements for example, residency requirements. Students who seek an exception to graduation requirements should consult with their administrative adviser. The number of petitions filed with the Petitions Committee is typically low.
The CSAS reviews petitions involving exceptions to routine deadlines such as late course drops and adds and withdrawal from a course after the deadline. Students should consult with their administrative adviser if they believe they need to file a petition. The committee uses as a threshold for petitions "is the situation beyond a student's ability to predict and/or control."
