Constance Harsh

Constance Harsh, professor and chair of the department of English, is currently serving as interim dean of the faculty and provost.
Constance HarshHarsh came to Colgate in 1988, having received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been chair of the department of English since 2014, and was previously director of the Division of University Studies and University Professor of Core 152 and GNED 102.

She has served on a number of university-wide committees, including the Faculty Affairs Committee, the Academic Affairs Committee, the Dean's Advisory Committee, and the Economic Environment Working Group. She co-chaired the Middle States self-study that led to the institution's reaccreditation in 2008.

Her scholarly specialties lie in Victorian fiction, and she has published on the English industrial novel, the New Woman novel, and the fiction of George Gissing.
