Faculty

Colgate’s professors are as committed to their teaching as they are to their own research and publication. In classrooms, laboratories, studios, and in the field, they share the joy of creating new knowledge and sharing it with the world.

Biology Professor Ken Belanger talks with students.
Colgate’s teaching power continues to grow, despite national trends to the contrary. During the past two years, 20 new faculty positions were added, bringing interdisciplinary depth and new ways of thinking and teaching to Colgate.

Research by Colgate faculty members appears in the most-respected academic journals in the world, and faculty members are quoted on newsworthy topics of the day, from the future of Egypt after the fall of President Hosni Mubarak (political scientist Bruce Rutherford), to the relative investment potential of a New York City taxi medallion (sociologist Graham Hodges).

Picker Interdisciplinary Science Institute

The institute supports internal and external collaborations among faculty who bring expertise from different disciplines to bear on current and emerging scientific problems that remain intractable to the methods used within a single discipline.

This endowed institute provides significant funding for faculty research projects, which range from "Mathematical Methodologies for Art and Design” to “Whole-ecosystem Restoration Through Liming of Acidified Tributary Streams in the Honnedaga Lake Basin in the Adirondack Mountains."
