About:

The German Club provides both the university and surrounding Hamilton communities with a stronger understanding of political, social and cultural events that take place in Germany.  By re-creating century old traditions, explaining modern political events and describing the day-to-day activities of life in Germany, the club aids in developing a lucid, unbiased image of Germany for those unable to experience the nation first-hand.

Weekly lunches and coffee hours coupled with organized monthly events extend students’ German education well outside of the classroom.  The club welcomes all students and community members with even the slightest interest in a foreign culture to attend one of our events.

German Film Series: We are screening recent German movies, almost all of which are with English subtitles. So even if you do not speak German or not yet very well you’re more than welcome to come! Every other Wednesday 7:30 pm in the Max Kade Center in Lawrence Hall.

Table of Babel: Here you’ve got the chance to talk to others who are also interested in the language you’re learning/practicing (e.g. other students and native speakers of German, Spanish, Italian, French, Chinese and Japanese). It’s a great chance to practice your language/conversation skills while having lunch.

If you do not have a meal plan sign up and pick up a ticket for your Table of Babel free meal at the offices of of German Intern Veronika (Lawrence Hall, room 09D), administrative assistant Elvia Bona (Lawrence Hall, Room 215a) or administrative assistant Mindy Santiago (Lawrence Hall, Room 219a) at any time during the week (before 4 p.m., lunch break: noon to 1 p.m.). (Does not apply to faculty/staff – they receive their ticket at the front desk at Frank Dining Hall).  Weekly on Tuesdays 11:30 - 1 pm at Frank Dining Hall

Kaffeestunde: Stop by for a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate and some cookies/cake. As many of you know Germans traditionally have  “Kaffee und Kuchen” in the afternoon. Some of the time German faculty  will also be there so you’ll get a chance to talk to lots of different people. Depending on what you’d like to do we could also play games, talk about events that we could plan together etc. It’s all up to you. Weekly on Thursdays 3 p.m. in the Max Kade Center

Tutoring: if you think your German could use a little tutoring (questions on homework …) or you’d like regular one-on-one tutoring e-mail Claire Baldwin (e-mail: cmbaldwin) who will set you up with either an advanced student or an intern (vjeltsch).
