Student Life

Colgate Activities Board

The Colgate Activities Board (CAB) is a primary vehicle for social programming on campus. Membership is open to all students. CAB events are student-initiated, from idea conception, through planning and publicizing, to the actual event.

CAB also collaborates with many SGA-recognized student organizations in order to bring a wide diversity of events to campus.

CAB comprises seven committees, which are open to all students:

Barge: The Barge Committee takes advantage of the cozy atmosphere of the Barge Canal Coffee Company on Lebanon Street to plan intimate, crowd-pleasing events. Help plan open mic nights, the Winterfest arts competition, caffeine-a-thons, and Colgate's only weekly music series, the Barge Saturday Night Music Series. Visit the Barge Canal Coffee Company website!

Music: On the Music Committee, you'll have the opportunity to voice your opinion about the bands and performers you want to see on campus. You'll plan shows, choose venues, hire openers, and handle promotion. As well, you'll have the chance to meet and chill with some of the great artists who come to Colgate.

Publicity: Do you have a knack for graphics and design? Interested in marketing or advertising careers? The Publicity Committee coordinates publicizing all CAB events, as well as CAB as a whole. The committee also holds optional workshops for its members. Come learn new skills and share your creative talents with us!

Special Events: If CAB were an all-you-can-eat buffet, Special Events would be the dessert bar. After the "main course" of concerts, movies, and lectures, indulge in treats such as comedians, hypnotists, poetry slams, and relaxation events. We're limited only by the imagination of our committee members!

Take Two Films: Are you a film buff? Is your Friday or Saturday night not complete without a movie and popcorn? Take advantage of the chance to choose the films that are shown on campus on Fridays and Saturdays. As well, the Take Two Committee works with the Hamilton Theater to show midnight movies on Friday nights.

Travel and Recreation: How about a visit to Niagara Falls or New York City? Need to go to the mall in Syracuse? Ever been to the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown? Work with the other CAB committees and student organizations to sponsor trips large and small for Colgate students.
