The Colgate Speaking Union (CSU) is the home of Colgate University's Debate Society, Mock Trial Team, Model United Nations Team, and Student Lecture Forum. In addtion, along with the Student Lecture Forum, CSU hosts a podcast entitled Talk About Talk.
CSU's motto: VERITAS PRO SE NON LOQUITOR--TRUTH DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ITSELF--registers CSU's interest in challenging students to examine issues more deeply, explore opposing opinions, and promote a sense of wonder and depth of inquiry through well-considered acts of speaking and critical listening.
Finally, the ancient image of the open hand and the clenched fist--entitled "Eloquentia" and "Logica"--visually depicts a difference between eloquence's spirited beckoning and logic's tight reckoning. It is intended as a reminder that the diference between beckoning and reckoning is not hierarchical. Rather, it is practical as far as it is set by intention, audience, and circumstance.
