We've chosen to highlight a few of our favorite facilities below, just some of what Colgate has to offer.

Academic Facilities


ALANA Cultural Center
  • Multipurpose Room holds 70 people with a podium, movable seating, and multiple video and sound options
  • Lounge holds 18 with movable seating
  • Seminar Room holds 16

Alumni Hall
  • twelve classrooms, holding 14-61 people each
  • air-conditioning
  • movable seating, room computers, and video options

Case Library and Geyer Center for Information Technology
  • two computer labs: the Picker Classroom/Lab holds 30 people and the Cronin Computer Classroom/Lab holds 20
  • four seminar rooms, holding 14-15 people each
  • seven group study rooms, holding 6 people each
  • Batza Room holds 57 people for larger events
  • Hieber Cyber Café (operated by Sodexo) holds 76 people
  • $57.5 million expansion and renovation

Colgate Bookstore
  • Class of 2003 Events Room holds 75 people with movable seating
  • air-conditioned
  • located in the center of the village of Hamilton

Colgate Memorial Chapel
  • Main Chapel holds 750 people; used for chapel and University Church services, convocations, concerts, and lectures
  • Garden Level contains a reception room for 38, as well as a small ecumenical chapel, meeting areas, offices, and music practice rooms

Dana Arts Center
  • Brehmer Theater holds 336 people with fixed, tiered balcony seating; it’s the setting for up to 10 theater productions a year, plus concerts and lecture events
  • Picker Art Gallery offers frequent traveling exhibitions and holds a permanent collection of 10,000 objects
  • Dana 122 is a multimedia classroom, holding 44 people with movable seating

Lathrop Hall
  • Multi-Purpose Room holds 95 people with movable seating
  • eight other classrooms, holding 11-35 people each
  • room computers and projectors throughout the building
  • air-conditioning

Lawrence Hall
  • Ho Lecture Room holds 80 people with movable seating
  • Humanities Auditorium holds 42 people with fixed, tiered seating; it has a stage and both 16MM film and 35MM slide projectors
  • eighteen other classrooms, holding 24-45 people each
  • outdoor patio on terrace level holds 44 people
  • room computers and projectors throughout the building

Little Hall
  • Golden Auditorium, holding 145 people with fixed, tiered seating, offers state-of-the-art projection capabilities with both 16MM film and 35MM slide projectors
  • Little 114, holding 45 people with fixed, tiered seating, offers a second theater in the same building with 16MM film and 35MM slide projectors
  • Clifford Art Gallery
  • two other classrooms holding 25-36 people each
  • air-conditioning

McGregory Hall
  • four computer classrooms and labs, holding 16-32 people each
  • twelve other classrooms, holding 17-72 people each
  • room computers and projectors throughout the building

Olin Hall
  • Love Auditorioum holds 270 people with fixed, tiered seating and both 16MM film and 35MM slide projectors
  • eight other classrooms, holding 20-46 people each with movable seating

Persson Hall
  • Persson Auditorium holds 115 people with fixed, tiered seating and both 16MM film and 35MM slide projectors
  • Persson 209 is a computer classroom, holding 26 people
  • eight other classrooms, holding 21-48 people each with movable seating

Robert H.N. Ho Science Center
  • Meyerhoff Auditorium holds 96 people with fixed, tiered seating, and dual multimedia projectors
  • Cuniff Commons, a large atrium, holds 150 people, and can be used for receptions
  • Ho Tung Visualization Lab, a state-of-the-art facility with the ability to display the sky showing planets, constellations, and other astronomical objects in addition to 3D animations and shows made for an immersive dome environment, holds 57 people
  • Robert M. Linsley Geology Museum, containing spectacular gems and mineral clusters; well-preserved fossils of scorpion-like eurypterids, large dipleura trilobites, and a seven-foot-long mammoth tusk; and Colgate's oviraptor dinosaur egg, one of the first dinosaur eggs ever discovered
  • six other classrooms, holding between 15-40 people
  • 40 research labs, 13 teaching labs, and a teaching/research greenhouse

Base Camp
  • home to Colgate’s Outdoor Education Program
  • equipment rental center for sleeping, camping, cooking, outdoor climbing, winter, and miscellaneous gear

  • dedicated wilderness area located only minutes from campus
  • home to outdoor education courses, hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and a low ropes challenge course
  • yurt with a two-burner propane stove, bunk beds, and a wood stove

Charles H. Sanford Field House
  • one of the finest indoor practice facilities in the Northeast and Patriot League
  • tennis courts and track facilities
  • holds commencement and other major events

Glendening Boathouse
  • home to Colgate's rowing teams
  • features a recreational bay for use by Colgate faculty, staff, students, alumni, and their guests at no charge
  • Laser sailboats, AMF Pico Sailboats, canoes, kayaks, a rowboat, a paddle boat, and a single rowing shell

  • 50-meter L-shaped pool
  • 25-yard, eight-lane competitive area
  • movable bulkheads
  • one of two natatoriums with a retractable roof east of the Mississippi

Harry Lang XC & Fitness Trails
  • miles of maintained trails located just behind the residential quad
  • running, hiking, and cross-country skiing in the winter
  • full of opportunities for leaf peeping, wildlife spotting, and stargazing

  • Angert Family Climbing Wall, open to the public
  • basketball, racquetball, table tennis, and squash courts
  • martial arts studio, spin studio, and dance studio

Reid Athletic Center
  • Cotterell Court, home of Colgate basketball for 34 years and Colgate volleyball for 30 years
  • Starr Rink, home of Colgate hockey since 1959

Seven Oaks Golf Course
  • Golfweek’s Best Campus Courses 2010 & 2011

Trudy Fitness Center
  • 14,825 square-foot facility
  • 25 treadmills, 24 ellipticals, a dozen stationary bicycles, and several Precor adaptive motion trainers arrayed in front of floor-to-ceiling windows that run the length of the lodge-style second floor
  • personal screens attached to machines to review workout information and watch television programs
  • monitors can also control the user's iPod or access music playlists on a USB drive

Curtis Frank Dining Hall
  • main dining hall on campus, capable of serving several hundred guests every meal
  • recently renovated to include more food options and to create a fuller, more varied experience

  • used for large events including banquets and concerts
  • standard capacity of 250; fire code capacity of 600

O’Connor Campus Center
  • secondary dining hall during the academic year

  • media lounge can accommodate groups of 75 for meals, with a fire code capacity of 110; the room can be closed off, creating a private room with multimedia capabilities
  • conference room has multimedia capabilities, flexible seating, and a fire code capacity of 65
  • main lounge includes comfortable chairs, study spaces, and a fire code capacity of 121

Donovan’s Pub
  • recently renovated facility that serves pub-style food to students during the academic year
  • home to several student activities, including concerts, trivia nights, magicians, and comedians
  • game room includes pool and darts
  • televisions and multimedia capabilities
  • air-conditioning

Merrill House
  • home to the Colgate University Faculty Club
  • serves lunch to faculty, staff, administrators, and guests during the academic year
  • popular location for weddings and receptions
  • main dining room has seating for 46
  • private dining room has seating for 12
  • lawn overlooks campus and village of Hamilton, ample room to set up tents or outdoor seating for 250 people
