Residential Life at Colgate University Skip Navigation
Colgate’s Residential Life offers students a four-year residential experience designed to guide their personal and academic growth. Ninety percent of students live on campus in a variety of housing options from traditional residence halls to townhouses, allowing them to move “down the hill” into more independent housing as they grow through their years at Colgate. All students are enrolled in one of four residential commons, immersive living and learning communities where they make connections that last long after they leave the university.

Residential Commons

The Commons program is the heart of Colgate’s residential experience. Led by faculty and staff advisers, students in the commons don’t just live together. They eat together, attend classes and seminars together, and serve the community together. They host social functions, engage their peers in changing their communities , and bond as they study challenging material. The commons bind students together, and hold them together long after they’ve left Colgate. The commons are where Colgate happens.
