With a commitment of $5,000 or more, a Colgate Fund Scholarship donor will learn about the transformative impact of financial aid from a current Colgate student.

Financial Aid at Colgate

In our changed economic environment, access to higher education will become increasingly difficult for students and their families. Colleges and universities who are able to provide increasing levels of financial assistance to qualified students will thrive while schools less able to allocate additional resources to financial aid may be left behind.

Given this scenario, Colgate leadership has designated financial aid as our highest priority. The goal is to make a Colgate education accessible to all students who are capable of, and interested in, the intense level of engagement that Colgate offers, regardless of that applicant’s aid status. Within this overarching goal, the institution has identified three specific areas of opportunity that increased funding for financial aid will address: elevating the academic profile of the institution, increasing socio-economic diversity on campus, and strengthening Colgate’s competitive position in the future. This graph highlights the importance of financial aid.

Colgate Fund Scholarships support Colgate’s top priority of financial aid by providing grant funding for our financial aid awards and thereby easing the loan burden on our students. It is also important to note that the full amount of an Colgate Fund Scholarship supports current students in the fiscal year in which it is given. The scholarship, therefore, is a gift of immediate impact and provides Colgate great flexibility in fulfilling its commitment to meet the demonstrated financial need of deserving students.

Below are a few of the many students who have benefitted from financial aid and generous donors who have supported the program.

Thank You For Your Support

Thank you for your generous support of our highest priority: financial aid. Below you will find quotes from students who have benefited from financial aid resources.

Danielle Norgren ’18

Hometown: Bellevue, Washington
Concentration: French and international relations

“One of my favorite aspects of Colgate so far is the opportunity to travel. As a first year student I went abroad with the Benton Scholars program to Japan. There, we interviewed survivors of the atomic bombings, met with university students to discuss their views of nuclear weapons, and explored the Japanese culture. This was a life-changing experience that gave me insight into the complexities of relations between Japan and the United States.

"Thank you sincerely for your contributions to my education. I can already see the lasting impacts it has had on my character. The experiences given to me by Colgate have helped mold me into a more inquisitive and thoughtful person.”

Sarah McDaniel ’18

Hometown: Lake in the Hills, Illinois
Concentration: Economics and Spanish

“At Colgate, I participate in the Upstate Institute Consumer Bankruptcy Law project. This is a project where six to ten students interested in law participate in legal ethics and bankruptcy law training given by a bankruptcy attorney and Colgate alumna. This project gave me insight into the financial and law fields. I am also a member of the Delta Delta Delta Gamma Sigma chapter and help participate in events to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

"I cannot thank you enough as this scholarship helps me continue my education at Colgate and reinforces the idea that the Colgate alumni connection is strong. It also inspires me to give back to Colgate while I am here, which I hope to do as a community leader or a Link Staff member.”

Faith Williams ’19

Hometown: West Hempstead, New York
Concentration: Physics

“At Colgate, I am an intended physics major with a pre-engineering concentration and biomedical engineering emphasis. In addition, I am involved in a few clubs on campus such as Pet Pals and CHOP, which are both volunteer service clubs that visit animal shelters/soup kitchens.

"Your contributions mean so much to me, and I cannot thank you enough for helping fund my education here at Colgate. Colgate University was my dream school; however, I never thought I’d get accepted, let alone be able to afford to attend. But here I am, living my dream because of your kindness.”

Kyle Dillon ’19

Hometown: Deer Park, New York
Concentration: Chemistry

“At Colgate, I am involved with a wide range of activities. Since the beginning of my Colgate career, I have been involved with the Newman Community. I currently am a part of the Newman Board. Together we plan different activities for the Newman and Colgate communities. Additionally, I serve as a lector for the community. Besides Newman Community, I am also part of the Colgate Pre-Health Student Association and also the COVE’s Morrisville-Eaton School District twice a week.

"It is such a blessing to be given the assistance to help pursue such a wonderful experience. Colgate has allowed me to meet such wonderful people, to have deep intellectual conversations over meals, and to learn from some of the smartest professors I have ever met.”
