This page applies to prospective first-year students; applicants interested in aid for transfer students should visit our web page for transfer students.
During the first year of enrollment, Colgate financial aid is provided only to students who have demonstrated need and apply for assistance before an admission decision is made. Thus, students seeking financial aid for their first year at Colgate should plan to apply for aid at the same time they apply for admission. Colgate cannot guarantee that an otherwise-qualified applicant will receive financial aid if the deadlines are not met.
The university offers need-based financial aid and does not offer academic merit aid.
There are different application procedures to be followed based upon a student's citizenship:
United States citizens and eligible noncitizens
Canadian citizens
International (Non-Canadian) citizens
Please note that Colgate participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program, a component of the Post-9/11 GI Bill. To learn more about the Yellow Ribbon Program for eligible military veterans, please visit the GI Bill website. Please note that Colgate's Yellow Ribbon Program is available to veterans themselves, rather than to the dependents of veterans.
To calculate a student's potential non-Yellow Ribbon, Post-9/11 GI benefits, which can be transferred to a veteran's dependent through a transfer of benefits application made to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, please visit the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America website or the VA's Chapter 33 Benefit Calculator. Questions about veterans' benefits may be directed either to the nearest VA regional benefits office or to the Office of Financial Aid.
Early Decision (ED) Candidates
Application requirements are the same for early decision candidates as they are for regular decision candidates. Only the application deadlines are different. Please note the appropriate deadlines for Early Decision I (ED-I) and Early Decision II (ED-II).
Applying for Early Decision does not hurt your chances for financial aid. As with the regular decision financial aid process, students admitted under ED who apply for aid on time and demonstrate financial need will have their need met in full. In addition, the composition of financial aid awards for ED students is the same as for students applying for regular decision.
Colgate notifies applicants of its admission and financial aid decisions at the same time. This applies to both regular and early decision candidates.
Please contact the Office of Financial Aid if you have any questions about applying for aid at Colgate.
Providing false information in order to obtain financial aid will result in the cancellation of aid.
