Frequently Asked Questions How do I apply?
An
application helps us select students who will take full advantage of their campus visit. Space is limited, and we are only able to invite students who are seniors in high school. We will review open house applications on a rolling basis, so it is possible to receive earlier notification by submitting your application before the deadline.
How do I get there?
Colgate University is in Hamilton, a beautiful village nestled in the gorgeous Chenango Valley of upstate New York. Because of our rural location, visitors often find it convenient to use our
directions to campus.
Colgate will provide a bus for those traveling from the New York City metropolitan area and a van for those traveling from the Syracuse area. The bus will depart New York City on Sunday morning and return Monday evening. The van will depart Syracuse on Sunday afternoon and return Monday afternoon. There will also be a shuttle from the Syracuse airport to Colgate on Sunday and Monday for those flying into and out of Syracuse. If you are interested in reserving seats on either the bus, van, or shuttle, please mention this on your application.
Additionally, travel assistance is available for a limited number of students who demonstrate a need. To request travel assistance, please contact the Office of Admission, (315) 228-7401.
Whom will I meet? What will I do?
The Multicultural Open House is a special opportunity to experience campus life at Colgate. You will meet current students, faculty, and staff, all while participating in activities sponsored by multicultural student organizations, attending classes, and touring the campus. Take a look at a past year’s Open House
schedule.
Can I stay with a Colgate student?
Yes! Each Multicultural Open House participant is paired with a student host. You will stay in a residence hall, townhouse, or apartment.
Can I attend a class?
Yes! We not only encourage you to ask current students about their classes and academic experiences at Colgate, we create an opportunity for you to experience a Colgate class as well.
How much free time will I have?
Your two days at Colgate will be full of activities including information sessions and panel discussions, campus tours, classes, and several events sponsored by multicultural student groups. While the schedule will keep you busy, time can be made to pursue a specific interest.
Can my parents come?
Yes! We invite your parents to come and experience Colgate campus life as well. Special events are planned specifically for parents including a dinner, campus tour, and open visiting hours with our financial aid office. If your parent(s) will be accompanying you on the Syracuse or New York City buses, please indicate that on your application.
Where will my parents stay?
There are a number of lodging options in the immediate and greater Hamilton area available for parents. Please visit our compiled list of
lodging options as a reference. Parents should make reservations ahead of time.
We are not able to provide accommodations in the residence halls for parents accompanying students to the open house. However, resources are available to assist parents with their accommodations. Please call the Office of Admission for more information, (315) 228-7401.
If I’ve already visited Colgate, should I come for the Open House?
Yes! While campus visits provide valuable information and an overview of the Colgate experience, our Multicultural Open House provides a unique opportunity to interact with diverse cultures within our university community and become familiar with many resources available to multicultural students. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to experience campus life. Try Colgate on for size and determine if it is a good fit for you!
