The Vagina Monologues

A student-run production of The Vagina Monologues is held every spring. The play, written by Eve Ensler, is a series of monologues in which women reflect on different aspects of female sexuality, including their own personal experiences with sex and their attitudes toward their genitalia. The production serves both as a fundraiser and an awareness event. In 2010, the Vagina Monologues raised $3,500 for Vera House in Syracuse, N.Y., a center which provides educational programming about and emergency assistance for cases of domestic and sexual violence, and Liberty Resources Center in Oneida, N.Y., which helps runaway youth and battered women.

The show is consistently successful because of the dedication of the student actors and organizers, as well as the play’s blend of authenticity, humor, and enlightenment. The Vagina Monologues promotes a sense of empowerment and communal experience among women, but is enjoyed by all genders as a powerful and oftentimes humorous play!
