Students have the opportunity to become involved at many different levels. Some may take only a single basic course, appear in or do technical work on a single production.
Others may opt for total immersion, take eight or 10 theater courses, appear in or work on half a dozen or more full-scale productions.
The major takes a core of craft-oriented and dramatic literature courses, and is thereafter encouraged to pursue a focus in acting, directing, playwriting, scenic or lighting design, stage management, technical theater — or a combination of any of these.
The faculty includes highly experienced professionals who remain active in the theater.
The theater program is part of the English department, yet offers a major program and a minor program of its own. By design, the program is small, allowing for a close connection between students and faculty.
