In the Sociology and Anthropology Department, students study human cultures and societies, past and present, on a comparative basis. Our students seek to research and understand the social structures and values that shape our lives, the institutions and social forces in our own and other societies.
The department offers a wide variety of topics for study, including archaeology, cultural anthropology, social inequality, media and popular culture, medicine, and many others.
Many of the courses offered by the department may be taken by students who are interested in the subject but do not intend to major in sociology and anthropology.
The major, however, does provide students with an outstanding foundation for careers or graduate study in fields such as communications, law, business management, public administration, teaching, journalism, or social work.
