Choral Ensembles

The Colgate University Choral Ensembles are dedicated to enhancing the singing experience of Colgate students through careful preparation and engaging performances of choral music in a broad range of styles. Performances on and off campus include full-length concerts, collaborative projects, and a variety of University functions. Auditions for these choirs are open to any student who wishes to learn from and contribute to the music-making process. Though the vast majority of ensemble singers are not music majors, many still choose to take advantage of voice lessons offered through the music department.

Ensembles vary in their selectivity, schedule, and time commitment in order to provide access to first-time singers and seasoned vocal performers alike. This format allows many students to pursue involvements in theatre productions, instrumental ensembles, and student-led a cappella groups while improving their singing ability and exposure to choral music through participation in faculty-directed performances. Opportunities for student soloists will be balanced by occasional collaborations with professional singers.

A brief audition is required to join, but it is not necessary to bring a prepared solo. The audition is intended primarily to gather information about the singer’s vocal range and any previous vocal or instrumental experience. Auditions are held the first week of every semester in Dana 106.
