At Colgate, computer science is a mix of theory, application, design, and experiment. The university was one of the first colleges to establish an independent computer science program and it continues to be a leader in the teaching of computer science at the undergraduate level.
Colgate offers a full major in computer science, a combined computer science/mathematics major, and a minor in computer science.
Department faculty are active researchers and have been successful in acquiring NSF grants to support research, curriculum development and educational infrastructure activities in computer science.
Students who major in computer science have the opportunity to work on research projects both during the academic year and during the summer. Graduates of the computer science program at Colgate find many opportunities open both for employment in computer-related jobs or for graduate education.
