Choral Ensembles

Our choral ensembles are dedicated to enhancing your singing experience through careful preparation and the engaging performance of choral music in a broad range of styles.

Available Ensembles

There are two primary choral ensembles that you may be interested in. Each ensemble will challenge you with collaborative projects and performances at a variety of university functions.

Concert Choir
This is a mixed choir of 50 voices. We perform a broad range of classical choral literature in various languages, both with and without instrumental accompaniment. Often we are accompanied by the Memorial Chapel's Holtkamp Organ, or by professional instrumentalists from the faculty and regional symphonies.

Rehearsals: Tuesday and Thursday 5:40-7:00

Women's Singers
We are a chorus of 25-30 young women, and we perform music composed for treble voices. Our diverse repertory includes contributions by famous composers such as Brahms, Holst, Vivaldi, and Michael Haydn, as well as contemporary specialists in female voicings.

Rehearsals: Tuesday and Thursday 4:15-5:35

Joining an Ensemble

Auditions for these choirs are open to any student who wishes to learn from and contribute to the music-making process. Though the vast majority of ensemble singers are not music majors, many still choose to take advantage of music department voice lessons.

Ensembles vary in their selectivity, schedule, and time commitment in order to provide access to first-time singers and seasoned vocal performers alike. This format allows you to also participate in other groups and productions, such as a capella groups, musical theater, and more. Learn more about student musical groups.

A brief audition is required to join, but it is not necessary to bring a prepared solo. The audition is intended primarily to gather information about the singer’s vocal range and any previous vocal or instrumental experience. Auditions are held the first week of every semester in Dana 106 (campus map).
