Urban structures and problems are examined with an emphasis on the ways in which cities are embedded in a broader social and cultural milieu. The traditional concern of the impact of urban development on behavior is juxtaposed to an analysis of current fiscal problems and the potential for cities to grow, stagnate, or collapse. No first-year students are admitted. Prerequisites: SOCI 201/SOAN 204 or SOCI 250/SOAN 210, or permission of instructor.
