Undergraduate research office
HHMI funding will provide support for summer students at Colgate who are exploring research questions that integrate math and biology at the systems level. These students will typically be working with the HHMI-funded systems biologist, who has a joint appointment between the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Biology.
Colgate's National Institutes of Health Study Group
Each year about 60 Colgate students participate in study groups designed specifically for science majors and led by Colgate faculty members. The NIH experience has become the opportunity for students to undertake a summer of research in an NIH lab prior to the fall semester. The extra 10 weeks in the laboratory enable these students to extend their research experience so they can build on their foundational course work and complete projects of greater significance.
National Institutes of Health
Visualization lab
Each summer, two Colgate students will be accepted as summer research assistants to work full-time on visualization lab projects, with the guidance of a faculty member and the designer/technician. In addition, we will invite two local science teachers to work with the designer/technician to develop material for use in secondary science curriculum.
