Follow these guidelines for making your next event a green one!
Food and Dining:
- Provide organic/local food when possible
- Serve smaller portions (allowing people to come back for more, instead of taking too much the first time)
- Provide plates, cups, and utensils made from recycled material and/or that are biodegradable (avoid Styrofoam)
- Provide napkins made from 100 percent post-consumer content
- Encourage the use of reusable mugs or water bottles (no bottled water)
- Compost food waste (when possible)
Travel: - Provide carpooling options (encourage rideshare program)
- Encourage use of Colgate Cruiser for on-campus travel
- Encourage participation in voluntary offset of carbon emissions (i.e. Carbonfund.org)
Other: - Send event invitations through E-mail
- Print programs on recycled paper
- Utilize environmental friendly marketing on recycled paper or E-mail
- Make sure that there are clearly labeled recycling bins present
- Optimize natural lighting (open blinds or look for rooms that have good natural lighting)
