To the Colgate Community,
On behalf of the Advisory and Planning Committee (APC)
, I am delighted to update you on our strategic planning process. The goal of our effort is to prepare Colgate for its third century as a great and accessible liberal arts institution. We have benefited from the work and comments of literally hundreds of faculty, staff, and students and are excited as we seek to complete the planning process this year.
As many of you know, over the last two years, a series of working groups has been addressing important strategic issues. Most of these working groups have now finished their reports while the groups focusing on Teaching and Learning
and on the Campus Master Plan
are still in process.
In order to circulate the reports to the Colgate community and encourage additional input, we have created a website for the strategic planning process
. The website contains all of the working group reports as well as important messages and resources concerning the strategic planning process. We will be updating the website throughout the year. The site allows you to make comments
on the overall process, individual reports, or other issues. All comments will be circulated to the APC.
Over the next few weeks, the Advisory and Planning Committee will be working on a framing document for the strategic planning process. We plan on releasing a draft of this document to the community in late September. At the same time, we will release a draft document that collates all of the recommendations of the working groups, estimates their cost, and describes their status. In October, we will be holding open fora for faculty, staff, students, and the community as a whole to discuss the draft documents. Following are the dates for the fora. Each will start at 4:15 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 16th, Lawrence 105, Ho Lecture Room (faculty)
- Thursday, October 17th, Lawrence 105, Ho Lecture Room (staff)
- Monday, October 21st, Ho 101, Meyerhoff Auditorium (students)
- Tuesday, October 22nd, Ho 101, Meyerhoff Auditorium (community).
We will also be discussing the draft framing document with faculty, staff, and student groups across campus as well as with alumni and parents nationwide.
Also of note, the working group on Teaching and Learning
will be holding open fora to discuss their draft report on September 11th and September 12th. Each of these meetings will be 4:15-5:45 p.m. in the Ho Lecture Room, Lawrence 105.
In my October 6, 2011 memo
to you launching our strategic planning process, I noted, "Strategic planning is most successful when the entire community is involved." I look forward to discussing the issues that will determine Colgate's future so that we can further advance our great school.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
