The South Asian Cultural Club’s “Curry in a Hurry” lived up to its title Thursday as the meals sold out in a matter of 40 minutes.

The grab-and-go containers filled with curry, cooked by SACC members, proved to be a treat that few could resist.

Although they planned to have the sale run until 2 p.m., this group’s specialty did not last past noon.

SACC co-president Kashif Ahmed ’08 was pleased with the event and estimated that they served approximately 80 students and faculty members.

Ahmed explained the benefits of holding such an event: “We’re able to: one, get our name out there as Colgate is becoming more diverse, so that we can gain more people in our membership; two, give people good food; and three, collect money to be donated to ICDDR,B (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh).”

All proceeds are going to the ICDDR,B, which is an international health research institution in Dhaka, the nation’s capital.

“They provide free treatment to underprivileged people who are affected by water-borne diseases  due to flood-polluted drinking water supplies," said Rifat Zaman ’10, an SACC member.

If all goes according to plan, Ahmed said they would like to hold a similar event in the near future.

“We’re definitely looking to make things twice as big, which presents some technical problems, but the wanting for it is there.”
