The ability to take a position and defend it, even though it may not be your own, is a skill of inestimable value. The Debate Society offers training in argumentation, analyses and public presentation skills. Learn to solidify your own stance while questioning others. Seek knowledge through logic and interaction in a fun, relaxed, yet challenging environment.
The Debate Society competes in the British Parliamentary style. Competitive travel occurs throughout the academic year in a variety of locations, with past destinations including Canada, the United Kingdom, New England, California, Malaysia, Ireland, and Thailand.
This year, the Debate Society will compete in the Worlds Universities Debate Tournament at Koc University in Antalya, Turkey. In addition, the Debate Society will be competing in invitational tournaments at Oxford University and Cambridge University. Also, in conjunction with various student organizations, the Debate Society hosts public debates on the Colgate campus during the fall and spring semesters.
