Mission

The mission of the Environmental Health and Safety Office is to be a highly valued and collaborative partner with all of Colgate University’s departments and divisions in order to facilitate and promote their work in a healthy and safe manner.

Role

The role of the Environmental Health and Safety Office (“EHSO”) at Colgate University is to: develop and implement EH&S programs in an innovative manner, provide oversight and consultation, conduct training, provide information and technical assistance as well as other specialized services to assist the University’s community in meeting its public health, safety, environmental protection, and compliance responsibilities.   Primary areas of responsibility and/or involvement are:

• Laboratory and chemical safety
• Biosafety
• Radiation safety
• Hazardous materials management
• General safety
• Emergency response for spills
• Environmental and occupational health
• Respiratory protection
