Health Sciences Advising

Colgate's strong traditions in pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-veterinary education has been achieved within the broad framework of the liberal arts.

Students should feel free to concentrate in any subject that Colgate offers, and the choice should be dictated by the student's interests.

The student should also feel free to explore various possibilities during the first two years to determine preferred areas of concentration.

Health Sciences Advising Committee

Beginning in the student's first year, the committee provides information about professional school requirements.

The committee also counsels students regarding the choice of undergraduate courses and work experiences, and prepares a letter of recommendation for each candidate who has submitted a completed summary sheet, waiver forms, and transcript (please see Health Sciences Office).

Admission into professional schools in the health sciences is highly competitive. Consequently, an undergraduate must show consistently high academic performance throughout his or her undergraduate career.

This committee is composed of faculty who are interested in counseling students planning for careers in the health professions.

Julie Chanatry, Ph.D., Department of Chemistry serves as Chairperson. Other members of the committee are Merrill Miller, M.D., Director of Health Services; Ken Belanger, Ph.D., Department of Biology; Ernie Nolen Ph.D., Dept. of Chemistry,  Amy Leventer, Ph.D., Dept. of Geology, Ursula Olender, Director of Career Services, Ann Landstrom, Asst. Dean & Dir., Office of National Fellowships & Scholarships, and Jill Ford, Administrative Coordinator, Health Science Advising Office.
