Located in the Center for Learning, Teaching, and Research, the Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS) is the umbrella organization that sponsors the Summer Institute, the Higher Education Opportunities Program (HEOP), and ongoing support services such as tutoring and mentoring. OUS provides students an opportunity to excel at Colgate who show excellent academic potential but who may have been denied the opportunity to achieve at their full capacity. Students participating in OUS come from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds.

Who can participate?
• The Office of Admission determines OUS eligibility at the point of admission. It is not necessary to submit a separate application.

The main objective of OUS is to enable students to thrive at the college by easing the transition from high school through an intensive, five-week, residential summer program matched with continued support services and programming throughout their academic tenure at Colgate.
Students are provided with a home base and a stable source of support through peer, faculty, and administrative resources.
OUS has been providing support to Colgate students since 1967. More than 91 percent of OUS students complete their Colgate degrees.
The office provides students ongoing support services in a variety of ways including:
• Tutoring (peer and professional)
• Mentoring (faculty-student)
• Personal and career counseling
• Academic advising
• Financial aid counseling
• Study skills and reading assistance
• Sponsored trips to conferences and career/graduate school fairs
• Study breaks
• Various support programs throughout the year
